Whether it's the December end of term mock exams, the college-wide GCSE English and Maths January mocks or the end of course mock exams in May before the big days in June, the assessments tell us so much about you.
It's not just how you are progressing academically we are witnessing and assessing, it's so much more about you than this...
It's extremely important to see how you are doing as the course moves along. Are you ready? Is it sinking in? Have you revised? Is your timing accurate? Is there a particular question that is causing you concern? What do we need to work with on to adjust before June?
Aside from marking and giving lots of feedback which you will hopefully read through and reflect upon seriously, we learn so much from just looking around the room from the front. It tells us Lecturers so much about the students: who is struggling? Who is easily distracted? Who arrives late? Who finishes the paper early? Who hasn't listened to our advice? Who is motivated and working hard to achieve a pass?
Yes, mock exams are very important for you, your Lecturers, your Tutors, your parents... They also tell us so much about you as a person; skills that you will need in the work place and in life outside of college walls: maturity, problem solving, time management, punctuality, motivation, respect, honesty, calm under pressure, personal satisfaction, confidence, revision, hard work, preparation, focus...
So please bear in mind that when you are doing assessments in class, we're not just looking at how many words you put on the page and in what order and if they are correct to the mark scheme....
We are analysing and reflecting upon you as an individual; something worth so much more than just the result you receive in the following weeks when we put those papers back on the desks in front of you.
